Neil Gaiman was born in 1960 in Hampshire, England and now lives with his family in Minnesota in the United States. As a child he discovered his love of books and reading, particularly comics and fantasy fiction. As a teenager he began to out grow the comics that were his favourite as a child but there was a lack of comic books for an older audience and he decided he wanted to write comic books when he grew up. On completing his education, Gaiman began pursuing journalism as a career, he wrote for many British magazines, and wrote and published his first book in 1984. Shortly after this he became friends with comic book writer Alan Moore and started writing comics. Neil Gaiman works in a variety of formats, writing graphic novels, short stories, novels, children's books, and scripts for television and films. His works are classified in a number of different genres, from horror to fantasy to science fiction, and often he jumps from one genre to another within a single work. He is best known for the his Sandman comic book series for adults and has also achieved success with a short novel for young adults, titled Coraline and more recently with The Graveyard Book. Coraline has been released as a movie and the film adaption of The Graveyard Book is in production.

Currently we have two books by Neil Gaiman in the Senior Fiction section of our library: Coraline - the graphic novel and The Graveyard Book.

Upper Hutt Library currently holds copies of 10 children's & teen books by Neil Gaiman as well as 2 audio books and a teen DVD.
